Does Medicare cover compression stockings?

Last Updated: Jan 22, 2013 01:43PM MST
A common question we get asked is does Medicare cover compression stockings or support hose? The answer is rarely, Medicare will cover compression garments only for patients with an open venous ulcer, being seen by a physician or health care professional for treatment of that ulcer. For those patients, Medicare will cover a 30-40, or 40-50 mmHg  knee high graduated compression stocking. Once the ulcer is healed, or for 20-30 mmHg or less compressions the stocking will not be covered.

Currently, there is no coverage by Medicare for compression arm sleeves, gloves, gauntlets, or other compression garments for patients with Lymphedema.

At Compression Guru, we do not bill Medicare for any compression garments. Our goal is to save you money on your compression needs by having the lowest prices available anywhere and provide you with stellar customer service.
